What You Should Look for in a Senior Living Community

Finding the best senior living community for your loved one is an important decision to make. For over 30 years, Brentwood has provided quality care at the highest standard of assisted living. We want to use our expertise to share with you what to look for when touring a senior living community.

Watch the video below to learn about what Brentwood Executive Director Bobby Nero tells families to look for in senior living communities or read on to see what makes a community the best for your loved one.

Are you Met with a Smile?

When walking into an assisted living facility, being greeted with a smile and friendly face can be a warm and inviting relief when entering a community, especially for the first time. You may also want to keep in mind how long they keep you waiting for someone to show you around the facility.

Is the person giving the tour enthusiastic and proud of the community they’re showing to you? After all, how can they provide the best quality care without being proud of the community they’re a part of?

How Clean is the Facility?

Cleanliness is one of the most important factors to consider when searching for a senior living community. When touring the facility, is it clean? Are there any off-putting odors you notice? We all want the best for our loved ones and making sure the next place they may call home is clean, and well taken care of, should be a priority.

Does the Community Seem Active?

During your visit, does the community seem active? Seeing residents out of their rooms and engaged in different hobbies, activities, or socializing, is a great way to know that the senior living residence is a real and thriving community.

Ask Plenty of Questions

Don’t be afraid to ask questions! Choosing a new home for your loved one is a meaningful decision that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Ask the residents “Do you enjoy living here?” or “What’s your favorite part about your day?” and get to know them. Consider giving them some information about your loved one and see if they think it’s the right place for them.

When talking to staff members, ask them questions like, “How long have you worked here?” or “What’s your favorite part about working here?” You can never ask too many questions when it comes to a decision like this.
