Art and Expression as Therapy for Seniors

art therapy for seniors

Engaging in creative expression is more than just a hobby—it can be a powerful therapeutic tool for older adults. At Brentwood Healthcare Center, we believe in the emotional, cognitive, and social benefits that come from artistic activities, and we proudly incorporate these opportunities into our regular programming.

One of the highlights is our Ceramics Class, led by Erika from Beautiful Bisque Ceramics. Residents enjoy hands-on sessions where they can paint and design their own ceramic pieces in a calm, supportive setting. These classes are a favorite in both our Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing communities and offer more than just a finished product—they foster a sense of accomplishment, relaxation, and social interaction.

These creative outlets offer more than just enjoyment—they promote emotional well-being, fine motor skills, and cognitive stimulation. In our Memory Care unit, weekly arts and crafts sessions are a consistent part of the routine, with activities like coloring used not only for self-expression but also as a calming technique and a bridge between activities. These moments of creativity help reduce anxiety, encourage focus, and provide meaningful engagement throughout the day.

At Brentwood, we aim to provide more than care—we provide meaningful moments that uplift and inspire.
